Each week of the NFL season we will sift through the deeper options at each position with an eye on identifying streaming fantasy commodities with valuable matchups to consider.Do you need replacement options for this first heavy bye week? We have some choice names to consider for those seeking widely available options at each position.QuarterbackJay Cutler, Chicago Bears After recommending Brian Hoyer for three straight weeks, I will stay within the Bears roster and suggest the player whom Hoyer replaced: Cutler.? He returns as the starter because of Hoyers broken arm and draws a tough matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.??While the matchup isnt ideal, my recommendations always draw from the group of players who are owned in less than 20 percent of ESPN.com leagues and among those options, Cutler reigns supreme.??Historically, Cutler has performed well in home games against the Vikings, posting an average stat line of 257 passing yards and 2.4 touchdowns per game.??As that production likely means 19 fantasy points, you cant pass over that type of production deep on the waiver wire. -- K.D.Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo BillsEven as the Bills have missed their top receiver and elite vertical threat Sammy Watkins for several weeks, and in the face of LeSean McCoy limping off the field last week, Taylor has maintained steady fantasy results throughout. Taylor is just one of four quarterbacks this season to post six performances with at least 14 fantasy points. We dont expect Taylor to have a heavy exposure in standard leagues against the favored Patriots this week, as his start percentage of just 30.6 percent this season indicates, but hes a fine option, given that he leads quarterbacks in rushing and delivers one of the highest floors at the position each week. -- J.M.Running backChris Thompson, Washington RedskinsWhile my running back recommendations from deep on the wire are usually desperation plays, Thompson doesnt fit that description.??Thompson outperformed Matt Jones last Sunday, both in the running game by gaining 6.1 yards per carry to Jones 2.1 and in the receiving game, where he was targeted seven times and Jones zero.??On the season, Thompson gains almost half a yard more per carry than Jones, which means that Thompson will continue to eat into Jones opportunities.??This week, the Redskins face the Cincinnati Bengals, who have allowed the 11th most fantasy points to opposing running backs, making Thompson a top-24 option at the position. -- K.D.Devontae Booker, Denver BroncosThis rookie has been started just 3.1 percent of the time this season in ESPN leagues, but its time for investors to deploy Booker as a second tailback or flex this week. Booker consumed a majority of touches and snaps in the Denver backfield for the first time this season in Week 7, as his majority share this past Monday signals a potentially significant shift in the teams developing committee with veteran C.J. Anderson. On tape, its clear Booker looks more elusive and agile in evading traffic and tackles than his veteran counterpart. With the Chargers ceding the seventh-most fantasy points per game to backs this season, its time to trust Booker as a viable streaming asset. -- J.M.Wide receiverBrandon LaFell, Cincinnati BengalsI would be remiss if I didnt mention Brian Quick here, as he, Larry Fitzgerald and A.J. Green are the only NFL wide receivers who have at least 50 receiving yards in each of the past five weeks. However, Quick is on his bye, so he doesnt qualify as a streaming option this week.? Instead, take a look at LaFell, who is the fourth-highest scoring wide receiver over the last three weeks.? While LaFell has done this via finding his way into the end zone on four separate occasions during those three games, the fact that LaFell draws the Redskins, who rank 21st in the league with 1,820 receiving yards allowed, makes LaFell a safer play than you might think. -- K.D.Russell Shepard, Tampa Bay BuccaneersWith Vincent Jackson on injured reserve, Shepard could continue to enjoy an uptick in exposure, as he was second on the team in targets this past Sunday. Shepard flashed a strong rapport with Jameis Winston in Week 7 with an 83.3 percent catch rate and an average depth of target of 12 yards downfield. The matchup this week is undeniably inviting, as the leagues other pirate-themed team, the Raiders, has ceded 205.4 yards per game to receivers this season, most in the league. With an ownership rate of zero in ESPN leagues as of press time, we can reasonably acquire and deploy Shepard in all formats this Sunday. -- J.M.Tight endC.J. Fiedorowicz, Houston TexansFiedorowiczs average stat line over the last four weeks is five catches on seven targets and 58 receiving yards.??He has received no fewer than five targets in each of those games.??In short, this third-year tight end has emerged as a reliable fantasy option but is owned in less than 7 percent of ESPN.com leagues.??Going against the Detroit Lions, who have allowed a touchdown to opposing tight ends in five of their six games is icing on the cake for this recommendation.??Fiedorowicz isnt just a streaming option, he needs to be owned outright. -- K.D.Vernon Davis, Washington RedskinsWe can find Davis in fantasy free agency in more than 70 percent of ESPN leagues at the moment, while his start percentage is hovering around 20 percent. Davis has run routes on more than 96 percent of Kirk Cousins dropbacks over the past two games in place of Jordan Reed. With the team facing a Week 9 bye, its quite possible Reed gets extra time to recover from another troubling concussion. In his place, Davis could prove capably productive, thanks to such a strong exposure rate. It also helps to consider the Bengals have ceded the 11th-most yards per game and eighth-most fantasy points to tight ends this season. -- J.M.D/STAtlanta FalconsWhile the Falcons defense ranks 26th in the league in terms of yards from scrimmage allowed, theyve actually been decent from a fantasy perspective.??Over their last five games, theyve scored at least six fantasy points four times.??This week, theyll be home against the Green Bay Packers, who will be without their two best running backs, Eddie Lacy and James Starks.??While Ty Montgomery and Knile Davis may be serviceable at the position, the fact that the Falcons will basically be playing against a one-dimensional offense should be favorable.??Look for Aaron Rodgers to throw more than 40 times, which means plenty of opportunities for sacks and turnovers for the Falcons defense. -- K.D.New York JetsWith negative fantasy production in two of the past three games, its understandable to hesitate, while evaluating this defenses fantasy prospects. What helps is to look at the recent success in the pressure department, as the Jets blitzed the Ravens on 46.7 percent of Baltimores dropbacks in Week 7. New York has allowed the seventh-fewest yards per rush to opposing backfields this season, so we could see the Browns compelled to drop back regularly in this conference battle. If the Jets can again effectively blitz the pocket -- Baltimore was limited to just 5.33 yards per dropback this past Sunday -- we could see another sound fantasy showing as a result. -- J.M.Individual defensive playersLinebackerAvery Williamson, Tennessee TitansRostered in just under 11 percent of ESPN leagues, Williamson rates second among inside linebacker in Pro Football Focus signature run-stop percentage metric, which accounts for the rate of tackles a player makes on the number of run spans he plays. Williamson has been on the field 90.5 percent of the Titans defensive snaps this season and has at least nine tackles in four of the past five games. -- J.M.Defensive backBradley McDougald, Tampa Bay BuccaneersAs an enforcer in the Tampa secondary, McDougald rates sixth among NFL safeties in run-stop percentage and has been on the field for a rewarding 98.2 percent of the teams defensive plays this season. With two high-octane offenses on the upcoming schedule, this Kansas product could prove productive in the tackles department in effectively patrolling the passing and running lanes. -- J.M.Defensive lineBrandon Graham, Philadelphia EaglesIm endorsing Graham for the second time this season, since his ownership is still sitting below 20 percent, despite ranking second in the league among 4-3 ends in total pass pressures and claims the top pass-rush productivity rate (formula of hits, hurries and sacks per dropback) at the position on Pro Football Focus. Past his bye and tied for second in fantasy points per game among defensive ends in ESPNs IDP scoring model, Graham is a must-own asset available in a vast majority of leagues. -- J.M.
